The Endowed Scholarship Auction on November 1 was fun and an amazing success! Thanks to all members who donated items for the auction or items to sell, to all who bid, to the highest bidders and to those who made a cash contribution. We are very pleased to announce that the total amount raised at the auction for our endowed scholarship fund at MSU for outstanding CANR students is $12,644. This amount enabled us to exceed our goal of $100,000!
Thirty-four families contributed by donating items, bidding on and receiving the highest bid, purchasing candy and/or making a cash donation. Other members have made investments in the endowment during this calendar year. The bottom line is that the proceeds from the auction and other gifts moved the needle above the $ 100,000 goal that the Scholarship Coordination Team set a couple of years ago.
We are grateful for your ongoing support of outstanding CANR students who are future leaders in agriculture and natural resources. Our desire is to increase the size and/or number of scholarships annually. We are very impressed by and proud of former scholarship recipients as we learn of their career choices and accomplishments after graduation from MSU.
If you were not able to attend the November 1 gala event and desire to donate toward the scholarship at this time, you may do so by going online to the MSU site. Visit http://givingto.msu.edu. Click on "give now" and type in the name of the fund "Lansing Area Agriculture and Natural Resources Club" to donate. If you plan to attend the LAANRC December 6 meeting, donation forms will be available to pick up on the name tag table. If you need further assistance, call Bob Pangman, 517-349-4173 and he will assist you.
The ANR Board and Auction Team wish to thank all who pitched in to this successful event. Thanks also to Doug and Bill Sheridan of Sheridan Auctioneering who provide news about the auction world and handle our live auctions at no cost to the club.
We hope to see you in December for another unique program presented by Belle Coty, harpist and MSU graduate student who will perform holiday music. Several members will share memories about one of their special holidays.
