Happy Fall Everyone!

The leaves are falling, rakes are strumming and morning frost is getting common these days. It reminds me of a poem I learned as a small boy about this time of year written by George Cooper. I’ve always been enchanted by the word-pictures this poem paints in my mind. I left out a couple of verses. You may have learned this too.

Come little leaves said the wind one day,
come over the meadows with me and play.
Put on your dresses of red and gold,
for the summer is gone and the days grow cold.
Soon as the leaves heard the wind’s loud call,
down they came fluttering, one and all;
Over the brown fields they danced and flew,
singing the glad little songs they knew.
Dancing and whirling, the little leaves went;
winter had called them, and they were content;
Soon, fast asleep in their earthy beds,
the snow laid a cover lid over their heads.

From Our President

Greetings LAANRC Members,

Hope all of you are well and enjoying what has been a great fall season with terrific weather and color.  Clearly this has been a tough eight months for all of us who value getting together once a month for a meal, social interaction and a good program.  I encourage all of you to begin or continue to “tune in” to our monthly Zoom webinars to at least catch up on club news and enjoy a good program.  I want to thank Bob Pangman for his efforts in keeping the communication flowing and people engaged.  I also want to thank the board of directors, and our teams who have continued to operate in this time of uncertainty.  And lastly, I want to thank Steve Harsh, Gloria Kielbaso and her Team who have worked hard to make the programs and webinars possible.

We agreed this past spring that we would use the Zoom webinar approach to continue club meetings through at least December.   As we look at the Covid 19 situation, I don’t see a lot of relief in the near future.  I have asked the board to meet in mid-November by way of Zoom to look at our future meeting approaches and format.  We’re really just interested in an approach that best meets your needs as club members during this interim time.  If you have comments regarding the webinar sessions and how we might improve, certainly contact any of our club officers and board members.  I know that you’re good about communicating with Bob and myself, but also feel free to contact any of the board members who also represent you.  Bob and Martha Schwab will be sending out the new membership directory soon that contains a listing of current board and committee members.

I hope your fall season and holidays are good ones.  We hope to hear from you on the webinars.

          All the best,
          Ken Rauscher, President
