January News 2022

I sincerely hope that your holidays were the very best and that you are ready to settle into a long winter’s nap (oops) plan to participate in activities that you will enjoy and feel safe engaging in.  We hope that our January meeting is one of them. Remember that the meeting is the second Monday of the month this time because the first Monday falls so close to the New Year’s weekend.

What  - Zoom Format Program
When - Monday, January 10, 2022 starting 7:00 pm
Program - "Changes Through the Generations" or "Prep, Plant, And Pray"
Presented by - Robert Reese III and Robert Reese IV, Gunnisonville Area Farmers

Reese Farms is a fourth-generation farm, started in 1944.  It is currently operated by Robert Reese the III and Robert Reese the IV.  They farm close to 2000 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat, sweet corn, pumpkins and raise beef cattle. They may be familiar to many of you as they sell direct to customers at their roadside stand.  Their story will provide us with some real insight into what it takes today to carry on an extensive and diverse farm enterprise like theirs.  Robert the III has a 2-year certificate in Agricultural Technology from MSU and Robert the IV has a Bachelor of Science degree from MSU in Soil Science. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn first-hand from these successful entrepreneurs.

Our Monday, January 10 program will start promptly at 7:00 pm.  We recommend that you join the Zoom meeting about 6:55 or so to have plenty of time to complete the process.  Because our program will be a webinar meeting format, you will not need to have a microphone or camera on your device to participate.

If you have a conflict with the January 10 date and/or time, the meeting will be recorded and a link placed on our Club’s website found by going online to lansinganrclub.org then clicking on Meetings and then choosing Past Meetings to find links to all recorded past meetings this program year.  For anyone who doesn’t or cannot use Zoom, accessing programs after the meetings using our website is highly recommended as it doesn’t require Zoom capabilities.

OES Gift

Last month we shared plans and rationale with you for providing a gift to the members of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 267 recognizing the 73 years that they have served us meals which have contributed much to our Club’s success.  Bob Pangman, Secretary-Treasurer made the presentation during our December meeting on behalf of the Club.  He read a letter and presented them with a check for $1,500.   Since some of you were not able to be in attendance, we wanted to share the letter Bob read with you:

Dear Friends in OES Chapter 267:

The Lansing Area Agriculture & Natural Resources Club has been celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.   As we reflect on the past, we recognize the key role your organization has played in the success of our Club over these many years.  For 73 years you have provided us with a meeting place and delicious family-style meals, served most graciously, which have certainly fostered and enhanced the fellowship our members share at meetings.  Seventy -three years is a long time and this longevity reveals the existence of a strong bond of friendship and cooperation between our two organizations.  Without these bonds, our ties would not have lasted this long.  Our long relationship must hold a record here in the Mid-Michigan area

Most importantly, our members want to acknowledge you, the volunteers, who both now and in years past, have been preparing and serving our dinners. We credit you for making this all work.  As our Club has gone through organizational and leadership changes as the years have rolled on, you have shown flexibility and adaptability in striving to meet our needs.  For this we are highly grateful.

Recognizing your important contributions toward our Club’s success, we are pleased to present to you this token of our thanks.  May the connections we now share be but the prologue for many more years of fruitful cooperation.

Most Sincerely,
The Members of the Lansing Area Agriculture & Natural Resources Club
